Douglas County is located in the western part of Nevada, along the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountains and the shores of Lake Tahoe. As of the 2020 Census, the county's population was approximately 49,500 residents.[1]

Established in 1861, Douglas County is one of Nevada’s original nine counties. It was named in honor of Illinois Senator Stephen A. Douglas. The county seat is Minden, which—along with Gardnerville—forms one of the main population centers in the scenic Carson Valley.[2]

The county is well known for its ranching heritage, outdoor recreation, and proximity to both **Lake Tahoe** and **Carson City**. Douglas County also contains **Stateline**, a major casino and tourism destination on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe.
