Cities and Towns in Lincoln County

Lincoln County is located in southeastern Nevada, bordering Utah. It is one of the most rural and least densely populated counties in the state, with roughly 4,500 residents as of the 2020 Census.[1]

Formed in 1866 and named after President Abraham Lincoln, the county has a rich mining history and vast stretches of federally managed land. The county seat is Pioche, once known as one of the most dangerous mining towns in the American West.[2]

The only incorporated city in Lincoln County is Caliente, known for its historic railroad station. The area also includes Alamo, near Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge, and Rachel, a tiny community near the infamous Area 51, along the Extraterrestrial Highway (Nevada State Route 375). The economy is supported by **tourism**, **ranching**, and **government services**.
