- Dyer – Unincorporated
Esmeralda County is located in southwestern Nevada and is the least populous county in the state, with fewer than 1,000 residents as of the 2020 Census.[1] Despite its small size, the county holds significant historical importance as part of Nevada’s early mining boom.
The county was established in 1861 and named after the Spanish word for “emerald.” Goldfield, once a bustling gold rush town in the early 1900s, is now the county seat and a hub for heritage tourism.[2]
Today, Esmeralda County is known for its wide-open landscapes, active lithium exploration near Silver Peak, and tight-knit rural communities. The economy is centered on **mining**, **tourism**, and small-scale **agriculture** in the Fish Lake Valley near Dyer.
