Cities and Towns in Storey County

Storey County is located in western Nevada and is one of the smallest counties in the state by area and population. As of the 2020 Census, the county had around 4,100 residents.[1]

The county was created in 1861 and is named after Captain Edward Farris Storey, who died during the Pyramid Lake War. Virginia City, the county seat, was once one of the richest mining boomtowns in the American West thanks to the discovery of the Comstock Lode.[2]

Today, Storey County blends preserved historical tourism with modern industry. It is home to the **Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center (TRIC)**, one of the largest industrial parks in the world, housing companies like Tesla, Switch, and Google. Communities like Gold Hill and Lockwood maintain the area’s frontier heritage while serving as commuter and business hubs near Reno and Carson City.
