Churchill County is located in western Nevada and is known for its deep agricultural roots, military installations, and high desert landscape. As of the 2020 Census, the county had a population of approximately 25,500.[1]
Established in 1861 and named after Mexican-American War hero Sylvester Churchill, the county’s seat and largest city is Fallon. It serves as a regional center for agriculture, particularly alfalfa production and cattle ranching, and is home to **Naval Air Station Fallon**, the primary training facility for U.S. Navy fighter pilots and the home of the TOPGUN program.[2]
Churchill County also features notable water and wildlife assets, including the **Carson River**, **Lahontan Reservoir**, and **Stillwater National Wildlife Refuge**, which is internationally recognized for migratory bird habitat.
The local economy is supported by **farming**, **military operations**, **renewable energy**, and **rural tourism**. Educational needs are served by the Churchill County School District and the Western Nevada College Fallon campus.
