Reno
Reno is the largest city in Washoe County, located in the northwestern corner of Nevada. With a population of around 270,000 as of 2023, Reno ranks as the third most populous city in the state after Las Vegas and Henderson.[1]
Nicknamed "The Biggest Little City in the World," Reno was officially founded in 1868 as a railroad town and quickly became a gateway to the Sierra Nevada and California.[2] While it’s historically known for its casinos and liberal divorce laws in the early 20th century, Reno has grown into a modern city with a strong arts scene, outdoor lifestyle, and expanding tech economy.
Major employers in the area include the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), Tesla, and various logistics and data companies. Reno is also a key player in Nevada’s northern innovation corridor and frequently ranks high in quality-of-life and relocation metrics.[3]
The city sits at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and offers quick access to Lake Tahoe, Truckee River recreation, and year-round outdoor adventures. With events like the Reno Rodeo, Artown Festival, and Hot August Nights, the city blends small-town personality with regional influence.
