Carson City

Carson City is the capital of the state of Nevada and functions as an independent city as well as a consolidated city-county. Unlike other counties in Nevada, Carson City is not part of any other county government. As of the 2020 Census, the population was approximately 58,600.[1]
Originally founded as a stop along the Carson River and part of the California Trail, Carson City became the state capital in 1864 when Nevada was admitted to the Union. It was named after the famed frontiersman Kit Carson.[2]
Carson City houses the **Nevada State Legislature**, **Supreme Court**, and many state agencies. It borders the eastern edge of the Sierra Nevada and serves as a gateway to **Lake Tahoe**, **Virginia City**, and the **Carson Valley**. The city has a diverse economy that includes **government**, **manufacturing**, **tourism**, and **healthcare**.
